Wobble Noggin’ with Weed: How Cannabis can help with a Hangover

Using Weed to Get Rid of a Hangover

An excessive amount of wobbly pops on a summer night in the city can have severe consequences in the morning. Greasy spoon breakfast, water, and popping a Tylonol are all in our arsenal of hangover cures, but what about good old, dependable cannabis? Let’s add weed to our bag of weaponry. Before we get into the why, let’s remind you of one thing.  In short, each of us has our own internal endocannabinoid system (ECS). Cannabis terpenes and cannabinoids interact with our ECS and influence how each strain affects us.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, let's go over why marijuana is good for a hangover by looking at each symptom and how cannabis counteracts it.

Getting lifted improves your mood.

We have those nights at the pub when we just can't stop being emo. After a few shots, depression, anxiety, and strange mood swings take over our happy place. Because alcohol is a depressant, it can interfere with the levels of "feel good" chemicals in our brains.

The night you drink, alcohol usually raises your serotonin and dopamine levels. We have lower levels of these chemicals the next day, which can make us feel anxious or depressed.

THC helps, but cannabinoids found in marijuana can also help improve our mood after a night of drinking.

Anandamide is one of these cannabinoids. Anandamide was named after the Sanskrit word for bliss or joy because it is a mood enhancer with a calming effect. Anandamide is also produced naturally in our bodies. AAH enzymes normally degrade anandamide in our bodies. Cannabidiol (CBD) can, however, prevent those enzymes from breaking it down.

CBD allows the Anandamide in cannabis to attach to receptors in our brains, resulting in the chill effect commonly associated with CBD.

Cannabis cures headaches

According to a 2021 study, cannabis can help with headaches and migraines. According to the findings of the study, cannabis may be effective in reducing the severity of headaches and the use of pain relievers in those who smoke cannabis.

Weed assists in detoxification.

It's no secret that cannabinoids in cannabis can help reduce inflammation, which is often at the root of other health problems. This may be why many athletes turn to cannabis as a natural alternative to pain relievers. Toxins such as alcohol can cause inflammation in the body. Cannabis, on the other hand, is a natural anti-inflammatory and detoxifier. Cannabis can help to reduce inflammation and detoxify your system.

Hangovers, weed and sleep.

We’ll end it here with the coziest reason why weed helps cure hangovers. The day-after heavy drinking vibes always involve a lot of sleep and crashing on the couch. Cannabis can chill too. Actually, we’ll do you one better and narrow it down. Gummies can chill, too. You may fall asleep quickly, but sleeping after a big night out is rarely restful or rejuvenating. Even if you have the opportunity to sleep, a hangover may prevent you from doing so. Sleeping can help with symptoms because it allows the liver to flush the alcohol out of the system. Sleep gummies or suppositories can help you fight a hangover before it starts. When you don't get enough sleep, everything seems to go to hell.
