OPINION: RECREATIONAL CAN ALSO BE MEDICINAL

Recreational marijuana use is quickly becoming more widely accepted throughout the world,

with many common people and organizations recognizing the potential of cannabis as a medicinal substance. Although marijuana is often seen as primarily a "recreational drug” for “lazy stoners", there is evidence that the plant and THC properties have many beneficial medicinal effects. Cannabis has long been used to help with a variety of physical and mental ailments, ranging from chronic pain relief to lessening symptoms associated with anxiety and depression. A growing body of research is also showing that marijuana can be used to treat certain forms of epilepsy, as well as help to slow the progression of Alzheimer's and even potentially be beneficial in fighting cancer. However, it is important to note that cannabis, concentrates, and other products should always be used responsibly.

That being said, stress is said to be the number one killer in the world.

It causes inflammation and is also thought to exacerbate ailments. Marijuana helps suppress inflammation and taking the edge off with a joint at the end of a long days work probably does more to help keep a person alive than just wallowing in pity and stressing out every evening. Frank Sinatra once famously said, “I feel sorry for people that don't drink because when they wake up in the morning, that is the best they're going to feel all day.” Well, smoking weed wasn’t as prominent back then as it is in 2023, but you could easily apply the same logic to Mary Jane. The potential medicinal benefits of having a puff once or twice a week recreationally, even for a perfectly healthy person, should not go overlooked.

There’s one more thing I want to address before I wrap this one up.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, the longtime adage exists that: “stoners are lazy and stupid and eat Cheetos all day.” This notion is entirely a myth with no basis in reality. It’s speculated and more or less confirmed by historians that marijuana has been used for both recreational and medicinal purposes for thousands of years by now. There is zero evidence to suggest that using marijuana or cannabis products cause death, or have any long-term negative effects on productivity or motivation. Furthermore, scientific research has found that cannabis use can improve mental alertness and focus, allowing people to function more efficiently in both work and play. Many people who smoke marijuana, vape concentrates, or eat edibles report that it helps them manage their pain and emotional distress. Not to mention the fact that some strains of weed are designed specifically for hunger and sleep and others are made for focus and energy. Ultimately, what matters most is how each individual uses marijuana, regardless of whether it’s for pain or pleasure. If you’re blazing in a willing, comfortable, responsible, and mindful way, cannabis is a net benefit for anyone's physical and mental health.

Self care is health care.

If you’re enjoying your life and are having fun, you can never truly be defeated. That is why recreational marijuana use not only can be, but is, medicinal.
