Best Walking & Running Trails in Burlington
The local vibe
Burlington is built for moving—flat, breeze-cooled paths along Lake Ontario in the south and forested escarpment climbs up north. Whether you’re logging easy kilometres before brunch or chasing hill repeats after work, you’ll find a route that feels right. Bonus: many trails connect to transit and year-round events, so you can turn a casual jog into something bigger without overthinking it.
Evergreen highlights (our favourite routes)
Waterfront Trail: Spencer Smith Park → Beachway Park If you want a postcard-perfect run or walk, start at Spencer Smith Park and follow the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail west through Beachway Park. It’s flat, paved or hard-packed, with lake views, washrooms, and plenty of benches for cooldowns. Expect bikes, strollers, and sunsets. Ideal for 3–10 km out-and-backs, with options to continue toward the Burlington Canal Lift Bridge. Great Lakes Waterfront Trail

LaSalle Park & Bayview Park loops North of the waterfront, the harbour-side paths and side streets around LaSalle and Bayview make for gentle loops with birdlife and marina views—great for recovery runs or relaxed walks. Connect to the Waterfront Trail for extra distance. Burlington
Kerncliff Park & the Bruce Trail (Iroquoia Section) For escarpment drama without a long drive, Kerncliff Park offers lookouts and quick access to the Bruce Trail. Expect rolling terrain, limestone underfoot, and a “feels-far-from-the-city” vibe. Keep it short with park loops or follow the main/side trails for longer adventures. Bruce Trail Conservancy
Mount Nemo Conservation Area When you’re craving elevation, Mount Nemo brings steady climbs, technical roots and rewarding views over Burlington and Lake Ontario. It’s perfect for hikers and trail-runners building strength. Note that Conservation Halton manages access and fees; check conditions and capacity before you go. conservationhalton.ca
Royal Botanical Gardens (Hendrie Valley & more) RBG’s nature sanctuaries stitch together boardwalks, crushed-stone paths, and wooded single-track. Hendrie Valley is a crowd-pleaser with wetlands and wildlife; surfaces vary, so plan footwear accordingly. Day passes/parking apply. Royal Botanical Gardens
Bronte Creek connection (east Burlington edge) At the city’s eastern boundary, Bronte Creek Provincial Park links into local roads and neighbourhood paths for longer long-runs. Pair with Paletta Lakefront Park or Orchard neighbourhood loops for a change of scenery. Burlington
