Weed makes people giggly and happy, and so do comedians. Canadians generally love smoking weed, and we’ve produced some of the funniest comedians to ever grace the stage or the screen. With that in mind, here are five of the best and most iconic Canadian stoner comedians!
SETH ROGEN
Known for portraying a stoner in almost all of his films, especially early on in his career, Seth Rogen is also one of the biggest names in Hollywood advocating for marijuana. Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Seth Rogen started his career doing stand up comedy at a very young age, all before creating and starring in some of the most iconic stoner movies ever made. Pineapple Express, Knocked Up, The 40 Year-Old Virgin, The Interview, Observe and Report, and Superbad, are all examples of movies that Seth has portrayed a full-blown stoner, or at least smokes weed, and I’m probably leaving some out. Seth Rogen also owns the cannabis company Houseplant, where he personally and rigorously vets and tests every strain they produce. Seth has gone on record saying he loves smoking sativa in the mornings, one of his favourite strains being Chemdawg, which is closely related to OG Kush.
TOMMY CHONG
One half of Cheech & Chong, the most famous pot-smoking duo perhaps in all of history, Tommy Chong has been on the forefront of marijuana advocacy since the 1970s. Tommy Chong was born in Edmonton, Alberta and started his career doing stand up before meeting Cheech Marin and transitioning into recording comedy albums and doing films and television. Not only is Chong known for playing the stoner character named after himself, but he’s also known for playing the stoner character Leo on That ‘70s Show. Chong is such a THC OG, that he’s even served nearly a year in prison between 2003 and 2004 for selling bongs online, which is mind boggling to think about today. Chong’s cellmate was the real life “Wolf of Wall Street” Jordan Belfort, who credits Tommy for encouraging him to write down his memoirs, but that’s neither here nor there. Tommy is and has been involved in a plethora of cannabis companies and projects over the years such as Cheech and Chong’s Cannabis Company, Tommy’s Craft Cannabis, Chong’s Bongs, Chong Star, and I’m sure there are others I’m missing. The legendary toker recently told rapper B-Real that Sunset Sherbet was one of his favourite strains, and we have a sale going on for some Thai Punch, which is a cross of the aforementioned strain as well as Purple Punch.
DAN AYKROYD

Dan Aykroyd is one of the most iconic Canadian comedians of all time. Hailing from Ottawa, Ontario, Dan Aykroyd is not only an alumni cast member of Saturday Night Live (SNL), but he’s also starred in iconic movies such as Ghostbusters, Trading Places, and The Blues Brothers, to name a few. The Blues Brothers saw Aykroyd team up with the late great John Belushi as they sing and dance around Chicago in an attempt to save an orphanage. Years later in real life, Aykroyd has teamed up with Belushi’s younger brother, Jim Belushi, the owner and operator of Belushi Farms. Naming their signature strain after the aforementioned film Blues Brothers, Belushi Farms has even garnered its own reality television show called Growing Belushi on Discovery Plus.
HOWIE MANDEL
Howie Mandel isn’t your typical weed smoking advocate who dabbles in cannabis culture or industry. However, Howie is somebody who’s been incredibly transparent about his marijuana usage when speaking on podcasts or during interviews. Born in Toronto, Ontario, Howie Mandel became an iconic stand up comedian before transitioning into film, tv, and hosting game shows like Deal Or No Deal and America’s Got Talent. Howie has revealed in recent years that he struggles with somewhat of an addictive personality, and that the COVID-19 lockdowns had him going insane. The comedian claims he struggles with moderation and would find himself drinking and smoking himself silly every night during the pandemic. Howie struggles with OCD and anxiety, and doesn’t smoke regularly because of this. That being said, Howie has also publicly stated that edibles have helped subside some of these symptoms, and he’s also talked about his love for “anything chocolate”.
JIM CARREY
Jim Carrey is widely considered one of, if not the, funniest person to ever live. Starting off doing stand up comedy, Jim Carrey left his birthplace of Newmarket, Ontario, got rejected by SNL, and found his way onto a show called In Living Color, starring the Wayans Family. Jim Carrey is yet another entry on this list that isn’t the most upfront smoker, however, over the years he’s shared hilarious and compelling stories about getting baked with other legendary comedians. Carrey has told tales about him and Richard Pryor passing joints back and forth talking about life and comedy. He’s talked about Rodney Dangerfield offering his dad weed. What a life. Jim has also expressed that at one point in his life he felt as though he was addicted to marijuana, but noted it wasn’t the high or smoking, rather the habitual effect sparking up daily can create.
