How many cannabis beverages can I purchase/possess at one time?

You can purchase up to 48 cans (355 ml) in a single transaction under the legal limits.

Regulatory amendments to the Cannabis in 2022 mean that "Adults in Canada are able to possess up to 17.1 litres (equal to 48 cans of 355 ml each) of cannabis beverages in public for non-medical purposes, which is up from approximately 2.1 litres (equal to five cans of 355 ml each) under the previous rules," according to Health Canada.

What are cannabis beverages?

Cannabis beverages are drinks infused with THC, CBD, or a combination of both. They come in a wide variety of flavours and formats including sodas, iced teas, seltzers, and sparkling waters.

How long do infused drinks take to hit?

Cannabinoids like THC in cannabis beverages are absorbed through your digestive system. This means it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours or more to feel the effects, which is much longer than the almost instant effects from smoking or vaping.

Plus, effects can last for 12 hours or more and will vary for every individual depending on personal factors like previous experience with cannabis, weight and height, or what you've eaten.

To avoid overdoing it, Health Canada suggests starting with a tiny amount (2.5 mg of THC or less), especially if you're trying a new product, and then waiting to see how your body reacts.
