DABBING FAQS

What is dabbing?

Dabbing is a method of consuming cannabis concentrates, such as wax, shatter, or oil. It involves heating a small amount of the concentrate on a hot surface, typically a nail or a banger, and then inhaling the resulting vapor.

Dabbing is popular among experienced cannabis users because it delivers a potent and fast-acting dose of cannabinoids. However, it's important to start with a small amount, especially for those new to dabbing, due to the high concentration of THC in cannabis concentrates.

Do I need special equipment to dab?

To do a cannabis dab, you'll need several specific pieces of equipment. Here's a list of the essential items:

Dab Rig: A specialized type of water pipe designed for dabbing. It looks similar to a bong but is specifically used for vaporizing concentrates.

Nail or Banger: The surface where the concentrate is vaporized. Nails and bangers can be made from various materials, including:

  • Titanium: Durable and heats quickly.
  • Quartz: Heats quickly and provides a clean flavor.
  • Ceramic: Retains heat well and offers a clean taste.
  • Glass: Least durable but can be used if handled carefully.

Dab Tool: A small, usually metal tool used to handle and apply the concentrate to the hot nail or banger. It's also called a dabber.

Torch: Typically a butane torch used to heat the nail or banger to the required temperature. Propane torches can also be used but are less common.

Carb Cap: A small cover that goes over the nail or banger after the concentrate is applied. It helps regulate airflow and maximize vaporization.

Concentrate: The cannabis extract you'll be dabbing. Common forms include wax, shatter, budder, and oil.

Timer (Optional): To measure the cooling time after heating the nail or banger to ensure you dab at the optimal temperature.

E-Nail (Optional): An electronic nail that heats to a specific temperature and maintains that temperature, eliminating the need for a torch.

Cleaning Supplies: Cotton swabs and isopropyl alcohol for cleaning the nail or banger after use to ensure it remains in good condition and provides the best flavour.

How do I do a dab?

Here's a step-by-step breakdown of of how to do:

  1. Preparation: Gather the necessary equipment, including a dab rig (similar to a water pipe), a nail or banger (usually made of titanium, quartz, or ceramic), a dab tool (for handling the concentrate), a carb cap, and a torch (usually butane).
  2. Heating the Nail: Use the torch to heat the nail or banger until it reaches the desired temperature. This usually takes about 20-60 seconds, depending on the material and the heat source.
  3. Cooling the Nail: Allow the nail to cool for a few seconds to reach the optimal dabbing temperature. Too hot can cause harsh hits and degrade the flavor, while too cool can result in incomplete vaporization.
  4. Applying the Concentrate: Use the dab tool to place a small amount of concentrate onto the heated nail or banger. The concentrate will vaporize almost instantly upon contact with the hot surface.
  5. Inhaling: Inhale the vapor through the mouthpiece of the dab rig. You can use a carb cap to cover the nail or banger, which helps regulate airflow and allows for better vaporization.
  6. Exhaling: Exhale the vapor after inhaling. The effects of dabbing are usually felt more quickly and intensely compared to other methods of cannabis consumption.
