The Best Horror Movies to Watch While High

Stoned and spooky is an all year round kinda vibe.

Are you a thrill-seeker looking to test the limits of your fear? Or perhaps you simply enjoy a good scare? Whatever your reason, there's no denying the allure of a truly terrifying film.

To help you navigate the vast world of horror, we've compiled a list of five spine-chilling movies that are guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat while stoned. We've also paired each chilling flick with an equally spooky cannabis pairing.

Hereditary

Ebert Film Fest will get creepy with 'Hereditary' and Hitchcock | Illinois

Hereditary is a psychological horror film that deeply disturbs and unsettles viewers, especially those who are under the influence of mind-altering substances. The movie follows the Graham family as they unravel a dark and twisted inheritance tied to their ancestry.

Hereditary explores themes of grief, mental illness, and the supernatural, through the lens of intricate storytelling. The film's eerie and chilling atmosphere, coupled with its shocking and graphic scenes, can intensify feelings of paranoia, fear, and unease. It is a gripping cinematic experience that can amplify the psychological impact of cannabis, making viewers wish they had regular chocolate instead of infused chocolate.

Tromeo and Juliet

Tromeo and Juliet (1996) - IMDb

Troma Entertainment has the largest catalog of grotesque and hilarious movies filled with monsters, gore, sex, and more in the world. Furthermore, the man behind the magic, Lloyd Kaufman has not only helped launch careers, but has appeared in some legendary movies himself, such as Guardians of the Galaxy. Speaking of GOTG, writer and director James Gunn actually got his start with Troma in the form of the cult classic comedy Tromeo and Juliet. The movie’s about a New York filmmaker who falls in love with the daughter of a former partner who stole his art-film business. The film is a loose adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet and features extreme sexuality and violence. The film's title is a blend of "Troma" and "Romeo and Juliet", and is narrated by Lemmy Kilmister, the lead singer of Motorhead.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) - IMDb

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a classic horror film known for its relentless depiction of terror. The movie follows a group of friends who fall victim to a deranged family of cannibalistic killers in rural Texas. It is a terrifying journey filled with gruesome violence, suspenseful chase sequences, and disturbing imagery.

While the film's intention is to shock and scare, being high can intensify the experience to an uncomfortable degree. The disorienting atmosphere, gorey scenes, and psychological terror can induce an overwhelming feeling and leave viewers regretting that hit of the bowl.

Insidious

Insidious (2010) - IMDb

Insidious is a supernatural horror film that explores the terrifying realms of the afterlife. The story revolves around a family whose son falls into a coma-like state and becomes trapped in an evil spiritual dimension. As they seek to save their son, they confront chilling entities and dark secrets.

The film's eerie ambience, jump scares, and nightmarish optics are designed to invoke distress. Being high while watching Insidious can heighten delusions, intensify the feelings of dread, and amplify the sense of impending doom. It's a movie that you may want to swap out for an alcoholic seltzer instead, to forget you even watched the movie.

Saw

Amazon.com: Saw : Cary Elwes, Danny Glover, Dina Meyer, Leigh Whannell, Monica Potter, Tobin Bell, Ken Leung, Michael Emerson, Makenzie Vega, Benito Martinez, Shawnee Smith, Mike Butters, Paul Gutrecht, James Wan, Mark

Saw is a twisted psychological horror film that revolves around the sadistic games created by the infamous Jigsaw Killer. The movie follows a group of strangers who wake up in a dark industrial setting, forced to solve intricate and deadly puzzles in order to survive.

With its brutal violence, insane plot twists, and intense mental torment, Saw is not for the weak. Lighting one up before watching the film can magnify feelings of anxiety, paranoia, and discomfort. The film's unimaginable sequence of events and unhinged themes can leave viewers wishing they drank a Root Beer Float, instead of smoking Root Beer Float.

The Exorcist

The Exorcist (1973) - IMDb

The Exorcist is a legendary horror film known for its chilling portrayal of demonic possession. The story revolves around a young girl who becomes possessed by a spiteful entity, leading her desperate mother to seek the help of two priests. The movie delves into themes of faith, unholiness, and the battle between good and evil.

With its unsettling visuals, off-putting sounds, and intense operations, The Exorcist creates a climate of angst and terror. While the cartridge may be convenient to hit, the stress from watching this horror film will not be suitable for this setting and make it hard to comprehend and cope with the horrifying events unfolding on screen.

Cabin in the Woods

The Cabin in the Woods (2011) - IMDb

Cabin In The Woods is a self-aware horror film that challenges stereotypical horror tropes, and offers scares and laughs alike. Five college friends arrive at a forest cabin for vacation, only to find themselves being attacked by zombies. Two scientists, Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford, might be manipulating the situation, but there's more to everything than meets the eye. The flick stars Chris Hemsworth and is a good thrill ride with unexpected twists, and from personal experience, I can tell you that it’s best enjoyed while baked.

Pair with Lord Jones - Chocolate Fusions - Cookies & Cream

Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil

Tucker and Dale vs Evil (2010) - IMDb

Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil is a light-hearted horror comedy with a clever script that spoofs gory horror movies set in the woods. Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk take a backwoods vacation that turns violent when college students mistake them for murderous hillbillies. With all of the violence and partial nudity and innuendo that was still allowed in the early 2010’s, Tucker & Dale are a hilarious duo that keep audiences entertained and on the edge of their seats throughout.

Club Dread

Club Dread (2004) - IMDb

My personal favorite out of all of the movies featured in this list, Broken Lizard’s Club Dread is equally as thrilling as it is hilarious and violent. In a comical twist on the classic murder mystery or whodunnit genres, Club Dread sees a bunch of youngsters vacationing on a secluded party island ban together in order to figure out who’s killing everyone. It’s like the Scooby-Doo movie but with boobs and blunts and beers. Furthermore, it’s written by, directed by, and stars all of the same people who brought you Super Troopers and Beerfest, rendering it one of the most underrated slasher films of all time.
