OPINION: TRADITIONAL FILTERS RUIN THE TASTE OF WEED

OPINION: TRADITIONAL FILTERS RUIN THE TASTE OF WEED

Some of us smoke weed for medicinal purposes but most of us smoke weed for fun.

That being said, all of us have smoked a joint or two in our lifetimes and can likely discern good taste from bad taste. Although the weed might be hitting, and your paper might be flavored, sometimes those damned filters ruin the experience and leave a bad aftertaste. If you’re anything like the majority of doobie tokers, whether or not you roll your own or buy from the store, you likely smoke through a traditional joint filter. You may also find that the full flavor of your herb is either stifled or not as enjoyable as it should be. This is because traditional joint filters are made from crappy cardboard products that don’t actually filter out the plant material that taints the taste of your bud.

Traditional joint filters are typically made of paper or cellulose and offer no true filtering capabilities other than blocking itty-bitty bits of chopped up buds from flying into your mouth and lungs. What this means is that all of the plant matter and trichomes present in the weed, including those that contain the terpenes that lend marijuana its flavor, remain exposed to the heat of the flame. When heated, these plant materials release byproducts that can greatly diminish the taste of your herbs, including bitter and burnt flavors that come from the resin of the plant. They attach to the smoke and in turn neutralize some of the more desirable tastes and aromas. When you smoke weed with a traditional filter, it’s the same thing as putting peanut butter on burnt toast. Sure, the peanut butter tastes OK and the bread will fill you up, but was it really what you paid for?

If you want to maximize the flavor of your weed, you should invest in filters that are specifically designed to stifle plant material and other impurities. Glass joint filters are a great alternative as they contain tiny perforations that trap pyrolyzes products and other contaminants. Additionally, glass joint filters don’t contain paper or cellulose, so you can rest assured that you won’t be inhaling any remnants of either during your smoking session. Furthermore, some of the biggest brands in the industry are on board with this cause and have used ceramics to enhance consumers' doobie smoking experience. The legendary Sherbinskis make products like their Ceramic Tip Orange Sherbs Caviar Resin Infused Pre-Rolls that are absolutely to die for. Or perhaps you like recycling, to which I’d suggest trying a reusable glass filter, like the ones found attached to the butt of one of LOBO’s Presidente Blunts. Both of these products, and other non-paper filters, can be found at ShopKindling.ca, so try it today and thank us later.
